August 30 2013 - Hot Specials For The Week
Rounding up our top ten of the week that you need to hear.
HIS CLANCYNESS - ZENITH DIAMOND
Latest from Bologna-based Canadian musician Jonathan Clancy. Psych pop splendour, taken from the forthcoming 'Vicious' album released on October 7.
RIVALS - I'M NOT AN ANIMAL
Ross Millard of The Futureheads provides the engaging Sunderland dialect vocals of this bouncy, rockin track that is set for single release set for October 28.
POLAROID KISS - DAY TO DAY (THRESHOLD OF HELL VERSION)
Interesting electronic/shoegaze collective from Sweden/US/ London which features Steve Hewitt of Placebo and Kevin Drake (30 Seconds To Mars). Taken from the album 'Weakness Of The Beautiful Souls', to be released shortly on Rough Trade Records.
LIONHALL - SOLDIERS
Newcastle-based duo - the North's answer to London Grammar - return with this just-released single, following on from the 'Rhizomes' EP. Icy dynamics and the evocative vocals of Ana Blamford look certain to make Lionhall a future big league name.
FAMILY SCRAPS - MISTAKES
MJ, vocalist with Hookworms, turns his hand to this side project - and if this is anything to go by, he could have another success on his hands.
LETTERS TO FIESTA - TEARS APART
Manchester female-fronted outfit currently putting finishing touches to debut EP. Spine-tingling vocals from Anna Etherington, groovy basslines, set in a pop frame.
LARRY GUS - THE NIGHT PATROLS
Digital single release from the 'Years Not Living' album. He's not Vangelis, or Demis, but he could be the Greek god of smooth electronica.
ADDING MACHINE - SHIPS TO SINK
Bristol-based four-piece stamp their psych pop mark on this debut single out on September 23. Like a Siouxsie/Savages hybrid, striking synth stabs and Hazel Mills vocals lend definition to screw your aurals.
VENTRICAL - COLLATERAL
Initial demo from North London duo (formerly HUMI). About to be re-recorded with Trophy Wife's Kit for single release in November. Interesting working of rhythms, part psych, part tribal, and one that grows on you with each hearing.
MARK PROFESSOR - OYSTAH CARD
London MC Mark doing his bit for London Transport. Produced by Wrongtom, it's been bigged up by the likes of Don Letts on 6 Music and John Kennedy on Xfm. Guaranteed to make you smile and want to dance - and go get an 'Oystah' [sic] card.
