One To Watch :: Casablanca

The latest upwardly mobile band to join the ranks of the indie/pop brigade are the Crouch End foursome, Casablanca. Having the likes of Swim Deep, Peace and Bombay Bicycle Club on-side can only be to their good, and with their big catchy choruses and bouncy summer sound, they look set to fire up the same force as the likes of Theme Park and Noah and the Whale.

The quartet have been writing and performing their own material since meeting at school in 2006. Previously known as ‘Lo-Fi Culture Scene’, the boys met to rehearse at a house in Crouch End, in the same street that produced Madness and Bombay Bicycle Club. They boasted an average age of 11 and were much involved in the underage scene of the mid-noughties, managing to release two well received singles as well as supporting bands such as Bloc Party, Mystery Jets and Foals, amongst others.

Their debut single under the new line-up of Casablanca, 'Hurricane Season', boasted support from the likes of Huw Stephens and Phil & Alice at Radio 1, as well as XFM, and their new single ‘We Could Forever’ is an infectious upbeat party tune with huge anthemic choruses that peaks on judddering synths and geyser-explosive vocals.
