'One Breath' marks the follow-up album from the 2011 Mercury Prize nominated singer/songwriter, who describes the work as inspired by "the moment before you've got to open yourself up". As she did with her passion-rich debut, Calvi supplies further texture-filled points, here on her sophomore.
'Eliza', the new single, contains 'big' moments, from the thundering drums to the indulgent guitar solo. 'Sing To Me' and 'Bleed On Me' both stand out in their audacious choir-esque passages. Title track 'One Breath' fuses Calvi's resounding vocals, at this time breathy and diffused, against a backdrop of electronica, while it is her guitar diva that strikes out on tracks such as 'Carry Me Over' and 'Love Of My Life', the latter brimmed with distortion and reverb. It is left to the final piece, 'The Bridge', to proffer a fitting celestial homage to the gods, and a testament to Ms Calvi's full songstress mode.
