Introducing :: Half Loon
Half Loon are a new band on the block with lots of panache. Still to make their live debut (look towards the end of next month for that), their debut single is to be 'Swearword'.
Fronted by Daniel Pickard, who has previously toured as a solo artist across the UK and Europe, having played with the likes of Lee Mavers (The La’s), Carl Barat (The Libertines) and Kyle Falconer (The View), he has transformed his sound that now sees his youthful London-based four-piece band take inspiration from the likes of Syd Barrett, Connan Mockasin and The Brian Jonestown Massacre.
There's a dreamy, psychedelic quality to their poppy songs, with a touch of raw, jagged guitar that creates an atmosphere reminiscent to the sounds of their heroes whilst being able to maintain a very original and exciting sound.
'Swearword' opens with beautiful oscillation and a mellotron flute combined with psych-drenched slide guitar. Recorded by Syd Kemp (Neils Children) at Friends studio in Hackney's Netil House and mastered by James Aparicio (Spritualized), 'Swearword' sets the band up for an EP that will be coming during the end of the year.
'Swearword' will be available through Bandcamp for free download. It's B-side, 'Man Of Few Bloody Words', lends a much rockier bent to the proceedings, and ideally complements its laid-back breezy A-side.
Half Loon are: Daniel Pickard (guitar, lead vocals), Nick D’Amico (guitar), Simeon Cunningham (bass), Charlie Heaton (drums)
