November 8 2013 - Hot Top Ten
YOUNG KNIVES - WE COULD BE BLOOD
Darkly menacing and evocative first single from their fourth just-released album 'Sick Octave' - released on the former Mercury Prize nominees' own label and pledge-funded by fans.
TABLOID - VOYEUR
The mysterious Tabloid has put out this one - pretty good - track. We know no more. As to the identity, names have been banded about - try listening to Various Cruelties' Liam O'Donnell below. You decide.
LIAM O'DONNELL - NOTHING THAT I'M SCARED OF
Unlike Tabloid, we do know the Various Cruelties vocalist. This track just dropped the other day, and if would appear his six-month US sojourn has heavily influenced his musical style. We like it.
SILHOUETTES - GOLD TAG
Wolverhampton’s indie/electronic four-piece Silhouettes release this debut single through Integrity Records on November 25.
CIRCA WAVES - GET AWAY
Only formed this year, garage-pop four-piece from Liverpool make their debut with this self-produced piece of thundering guitars and percussion. Released December 2 thru Kissability.
THE SLOW READERS CLUB - FOREVER IN LOVE
Manchester indie electro quartet with a sound spanning decades. Strong Editors/Doves influence. Debut album released last year.
TRAMPOLENE - MY BOURGEOISIE GIRL
Fuzzy riffed Welsh three-piece release this as one side of the November 25 double A side single (with 'Under The Strobe Light'). Now London-based, creating a big enough buzz to guarantee their being a band to watch next year. See more here
ART TRIP & THE STATIC SOUND - HEX
London-based quartet with a spirited, visceral punk edge who first came to our attention early last year. See here
SHINY DARKLY - DEAD STARS
Our Track Of The Day here earlier this week. There really is nothing more to say than this is the epic title track from the Danish post-punk trio that runs for 9 minutes and 34 seconds. Enjoy each one.
THEN THICKENS - RESTART YOUR HEART
Six-piece outfit from Chorley, Lancashire, whose lo-fi pop - or "dirgey pop" as fan Biffy Clyro's Simon Neil describes it as - has been picked up by new Leeds label Hatch Records for this December 2 debut single.
