EP Review :: Loom - Lice
Loom
Lice
December 16 2013 (Hate Hate Hate Records)
7.5/10
Words: Alison Mack
This five-track EP follows the cassette tape-only initial 'Bleed On Me' outing. It's typically raw, rough, vital and as grungily disseminating as to be expected. Blasts if furious riffs echo throughout the title track as Tarik Badwan's vocals pound and guitars grind. 'Acid King City' (as pure out-and-out grunge as could be envisaged) and 'I Get A Taste' (a new version of the latter is here) are both valid examples of what they can do. So whilst the EP provides nothing new in terms of material, having heard these previously as singles, or as with the cover of The Jesus Lizard's 'Seasick' on the covers cassette the band had already put out, it does indicate that they are not a force to lay low. The real test, however, will come with their debut album (expected next year) where they will need to demonstrate at least another eight or nine untried songs. 'Lice' offers a keenness and ferocity that indicate Loom are playing this for real: putting their shoes firmly on the feet of disorder and running.
