Listen :: Purple Heart Parade
Purple Heart Parade formed in late 2012 in Manchester with several members having formerly been part of another Mancunian - although very different in style - band, Daystar. In their new guise, the five-piece trade a psych/shoegaze line, and a fast-growing fanbase.
We first featured them here back in June with their hippy, trippy, free download debut ‘The Room’: A slow hazy builder, that is awash with layered guitars and trance vocals that echo early Verve; swirling in a mesmerizing pattern like a sonic spiral.
‘Painting Pictures’/‘Starf*cker Blues’ form the first official double A-Side release from the band, and was released on December 16 through Sci Fi Stereo Records.
Still with under 20 live shows to their name, they have managed to support the likes of Exit Calm, The Lucid Dream, The Telescopes and Loom amongst others, on them.
‘Painting Pictures’ is a swirling vortex of pounding drums and steely vocals that give way to a melodic trance-inducing riff – a masterstroke of experimental production and exponential creativity; while 'Starf*cker Blues’ pays a gritty homage to those who’ve sought sexual trophies. It flits between the ambivalence of a hum-drum existence and the excitement of the conquest with a series of shifts in power that echo the role of the bandmates themselves. Images conjured may scream a dirty back alley or even a plush hotel room but by the close everyone knows they’ve got lucky.
Purple Heart Parade are: Peter Cowap II - Vocals, Ryan Jon Arnfield - Guitar, Sam 'Budgie' Bugajski - Guitar, Ste Woods - Bass, Brodie Dickerson - Drums
