[Video] Ernest Ellis - Black Wire
'Black Wire' is the first single from Australian artist Ernest Ellis's new album 'Cold Desire', to be released via Spunk Records on February 28 2014.
The video accompaniment - directed by Sydney-based Ellis himself - had us gripped as to where it was going. Not very far, is the answer; however, it is simple, yet sensual (and let's face it, a beautiful young girl gyrating around with not a lot of clothing on is not the most horrendous of things to view is it!) and the soul-rock track itself, whilst could easily have been resurrected from the 80s, is nevertheless easy on the ear and immensely tuneful.
When we contacted Ellis for a few words about it, he had this to say. "Basically the female dancer is an electrical conduit, and the electric shocks provoke her into dancing to the beat. I wanted to de-individualise/de-sexualise/objectify the dancer in an explicit way in order to kind of lift a veil on how women are so often objectified in pop-culture. Also, the idea was to capture the fine line between what turns people right on and right off, ie, you want to be turned on because the girl is beautiful, but at the same time the sado-masichism that's apparent makes that 'turn on' almost impossible, I think. I'm interested in that grey area between macabre and beautiful, that's what this clip is about."
So, now you all know - watch the video in full below.
