Introducing :: Over Sands

Over Sands are a duo - brothers Tom and Ben Stephens - who have just unveiled the delightful 'Tune Out'.

Originally from Frome in Somerset, the pair had been playing in bands together for a while but the Over Sands project "started back in the winter of 2012 in a beach house, on a nature reserve in Essex. We decided to take some time away from London, to write some songs," says Ben. "We spent a lot of time playing music in our house in Frome, and probably annoying the neighbours. Eventually we wanted to broaden our horizons, so we made the move to London to annoy some different neighbours!"

'Tune Out' is rich in layered sounds of guitars, and with a style hard to define. "The track is a kaleidoscope of genres really," adds Ben. "We were listening to a lot of ambient music when writing 'Tune Out'. We wanted the drums to have a sort of jazz feel, but obviously we have added some electronic elements to the percussion too. The vocals took on a sort of bluesy/gospel feel, mostly by accident. Basically we did whatever felt right for the track."

And it seems to have worked. Having put 'Tune Out' online just over a week ago, it's still early days for the guys, but with such a promising start, it won't be the last we hear of them.

Over Sands make their live debut, as support to Etches, at Sebright Arms, London on February 20.

Over Sands are: Ben Stephens - vocals, guitar, bass; Tom Stephens - vocals, keyboards, percussion.
