Wonderful Humans Post Four-Track EP Online
Last month, Little Indie - along with presumably a few other sites as well - received a mysterious email from an unknown outfit called Wonderful Humans with a link to one online track.
We thought 'Edge Of The Night' was so good it made our Track Of The Day. Two days later we then received another communication with yet another track 'I Never Knew' - which was even better. And although we still knew nothing about who the individuals behind Wonderful Humans were - except there were three of them apparently and are New York City-based - their crunchy 80s synth-pop style was certainly instantly enjoyable, and, indeed, rather wonderful.
Now, a month on, they are back again, still as low profile but with a full four-track EP - 'One'.
The EP - which you can stream below - includes the aforementioned 'Edge Of The Night', together with three previously unheard tracks: 'Big River', 'High Up', 'Together Now'.
Given that 'Edge Of Night' was produced by Dylan Scott (Halsey, Young Rising Sons), we rather take it that he has possibly worked on the whole EP - so sleuth ID clues from there. Others have commented on the likeness of the vocals on Wonderful Humans to those of Halsey, which we are going to add to; there is definitely a strong similarity.
'One's standout is naturally 'Edge Of The Night', and proved a good introductory track to put out in advance of this EP to whet appetites judging by the online response. Close runner-up is 'High Up' which fires along at a pace aided by drum machine beats. 'Together Now' would seem to typify what the band are so far about, sound-wise: catchy, electro power-pop, while 'Big River' with handclaps and male vocal harmonising allows for a subtle change in mood.
So far then, Wonderful Humans have shown themselves to be competent exponents of electro tunenage that recalls the best of the 80s era. But how long they intend to continue putting out music under the cloak of anonymity remains to be seen. It may ensure initial interest, but many will be now be waiting on the big reveal in order to get more of a handle on these three particular humans involved in this project.
