August 22 2014 - Hot Top Ten
FLAT 24/7 - MOTORWAYS
Something curiously engaging about the vocals on this demo track from the Derby fivesome now based in London. Formed early last year, they have played YNot Festival and supported By The Rivers.
LONELY CHILD - THURSDAY (THESE EYES)
Taken from the 'Monday' EP, ambient soul electronica from multi-instrumentalist / producer from Austin, Texas, Bryan Ray. Ambiently smooth vocals and fluid guitar work, along with well-crafted lyrics.
STARAR - FOR THE WATER
Travelling through a wide range of electronic sounds, before opening out into Jenna's vocals at 1.38, this interesting track comes from upcoming EP 'Summit' (out in November) from the genre crossing Lincs/London-based sibling duo Jenna and Steven Starar.
GRAVITY GHOST - HEARTBEATS (REWIND)
Just released soaring synth, glitchy electro pop debut from new London three-piece who met at an East London rave. Catch them live tonight (August 22) at Birmingham's Academy 3.
GULLS - ENDLESS
Jangle pop second single cut from the five-piece's forthcoming debut EP 'In Dreams', set for release next month. Visuals to accompany track include snippets from 'Quadrophenia' and other 60s images, which gives a good example of the band's sound.
ESPER SCOUT - CARPET OF A CREST
AA single release w/'Belay' out on October 6 via Bomb The Twist Records from the all-girl experimental Leeds quartet who are starting to make ripples. Catch them live at the single launch on October 4 at Brudenell Social Club, Leeds.
LOVECHILDE - SÉANCE FOR ST. SEBASTIAN
The second offering, following recent superb taster 'Ergot On Rye', from the dark and brooding multi-instrumentalist Thomas Eliot Dodd and producer James Dashwood from their 'Doorway To The Cesspit' album, out September 2 - here sounding like Nick Cave on a Apache reservation.
THE ROBOTZ - NOW NOW
Title track from the just-released debut EP by the Leeds hip hop/guitar duo, Finn Smith (drums, lead guitar, bass, percussion & lead vocals) and Tam Hain (rhythm guitar, bass, percussion & backing vocals).
THE STAFFORDS - POOR FOLKS LIVE
Second single and free download from the Melbourne garage punk outfit's (who took their name on forming in 2011 from a decrepit city warehouse where they rehearsed) upcoming full-length, 'It Kills Me', due in October.
CALGARIS - SUGAR
Heavy rockin Huddersfield dudes laying some of that sweet, but loud, stuff on you from their four-track EP out on September 22 via Bandcamp.
