Introducing :: Mysteries
It almost feels like a Toyah Willcox return with mysterious Mysteries, who are a mystery, oh a mystery - yet given the current predilection for bands to undergo image revamps and emerge under totally new guises, we wouldn't mind a little wager that this new three-piece have been around the block before.
But for now Mysteries are keeping their heads down - or perhaps rather not so much down as masked - and despite their label, the LA-based Felte Records, denying any knowledge of who they are (seemingly Mysteries came to their attention by way of being sent an anonymous tape), unless they are forgoing all royalties and signed no contract, that is more likely to be a PR ruse the kind myths are built on.
That aside, Mysteries already have a first album in the offing in October, preceded by a first taster track in the form of the hypnotic 'Deckard'. Judging by the confident stance it takes, you can understand why Felte picked up on them - however they may have come by them. Muscular, pulsing drums and a dark industrial edginess, wrapped up in electronic experimentia coupled with a lush vocal intonation, it has the makings of something impressively big.
‘New Age Music Is Here’ is out on October 28 thru Felte Records.
