T.O.L.D is an anachronym for 'The
Order of Life and Death'. It is also the name by which 24-year-old Los Angeles-based Brit Dan Smith is trading under.
Smith (not to be confused with Bastille's Dan Smith) makes his opening bid under the T.O.L.D moniker with 'Lucifer’s Eyes', a gently rippling electronic work whose persistent use of smooth steel drum throughout the track lends a flavour of its own, although shades of Jamie xx and Hurts edge in around the perimeters.
“I can’t see a way out,” he sings over the soft, metallic synth notes, that sound so mellifluous until you realise this is a song about the devil getting the upper hand.
