Soft Power Records Launch Debut EP By The Debutantes
Scotland-based Soft Power Records have become something of a great little label, having turned out a host of reliably good product over the last year or so - mostly by Irish variants of other bands like September Girls.
The next upcoming label release is from Galway's The Debutantes. Comprised of singer/guitarist Leon Butler plus September Girls' Paula Cullen on bass/vocals and Sarah Grimes on drums, on their debut five-track, self-titled EP they make lo-fi, reverb-rich fuzzy songs that straddle dreampop/garage genres. As with most of Soft Power's product, the emphasis is on DIY - adding to the appeal.
'The Debutantes' is out on October 11 via Soft Power Records as a limited edition cassette. You had probably better be quick, however, as there are now only a handful of the 100 left.
Soft Power Records are one of many who will be taking part in Edinburgh's Independent Label Market on October 11. Copies of their releases will be available (including a very few rare long sold out ones) as well as The Debutantes tape which is released on the day. There will also be two special label market items: ‘Under The Net’, a tape compilation featuring unreleased/new tracks from artists they have released or are
going to be releasing, including Blood Of The Bull, Autumns, Wolf Girl, Andrew R. Hill (Dora Maar Frontman) and Theoretical Girl which is limited to 50 copies; and a mini CD by Witching Waves, ahead of their album release.
