Introducing :: Natural Anthem
Forth Worth, Texas duo Natural Anthem harmoniously synthesize folk rock with Sixties blues - like an hallucinatory skyline meeting a treacherous mountainside. It's the kind of music made equally for night drives through the deserts of West Texas, as it is sunrises on the beaches of the West Coast.
Jake Murphy and Daniel Slatton started making music together ten years ago in the garage with a single Sony cassette recorder. Since then they have travelled across the United States, playing in sweaty Texas honky-tonks and mysterious mountainside watering holes,
performing an average of 120 shows per year. Previously known as Will Callers, in 2010 Bradley Schroeder and Chase Monks, who had joined the band just a month before, were both killed in a car crash. Murphy and Slatton, continuing as a duo with stand-in replacements, finished their first full-length LP, 'What Else Is Left?', which was eventually released in April last year to favourable reviews.
Still both in their mid-twenties, the duo have now put Will Callers to one side to form the Natural Anthem project. Check out 'Paranoid', a fairly trippy psych affair, from their recently released 'Thread' mini-album, and the dream-popping-rock of the title track below - hear more via Bandcamp.
