Listen :: We Are Z Set For Debut With 'Airbrush'

We're not too sure if Anglo-French trio We Are Z pronounce their 'Z' as a 'zee' or a 'zed' (Liza Minnelli will no doubt sympathise), but suffice to say WAZ release their debut single 'Airbrush' on November 17 via Sputnik Records.

'Airbrush' attacks the butchery of the plastic surgeon's knife and its virtual equivalent, the airbrush artist: twisting and manipulating the image of perfection regardless of the insecurity and neuroses it visits on society. "White out your teeth," sings frontman, Gabby, "you'll get the cutest aphrodite nose", painting a nightmarish picture where the compulsion to chase unattainable beauty becomes all consuming - and utterly destructive.

'Airbrush' is the first in a series of tracks to be released over the next few months, and serves as a statement of their agenda: rough edged and punky, but infectious and irresistibly danceable to; witty and perhaps a little unhinged, surreal but rooted in reality. There are hints of all manner of outsider heroes here, from the punk funk momentum of ESG or The Slits and the wonky jerk twerk of Devo, with a twist of the acid soaked psyche of Teardrop Explodes added for good measure.
