October 3 2014 - Hot Top Ten
LOOKS - BACK TO THE FIRE
Polished pop follow-up from the London three-piece to their 'Everest' debut, out October 20. Catch them live at Club NME @ Koko, London on October 10, and a single launch show at the Barfly on 14th.
FIANCÉ - CLIMB THE STAIRS
After the divine 'Era' we featured here last month, another cut from the Delaware outfit's debut EP 'EP 1' out on October 7 via SQE.
MITSKI - I DON'T SMOKE
The Brooklyn songstress with a quite unique sound. Taken from her upcoming 'Bury Me At Makeout Creek', released on November 11 thru Double Double Whammy - which is shaping up to be some treat. Check out our previous hot one from the lady, 'Townie', for an idea.
SEAVER'S EXPRESS - 2 x 2
An ode to a bicycle - we kid you not - and maybe a metaphor, from the Bostonian five-piece made up of brothers Sean and Brian Seaver (vocals) and three friends from childhood. Think Amy Winehouse's 'Valerie' meeting 'Sultans of Swing' by Dire Straits.
THIEVING IRONS - ELECTRIC PARADISE
Taken from Nate Martinez’s (ex-Pela) project's EP 'Phenomena' - which came out last week - the first from then since 2012's 'Behold, This Dreamer!' LP. Warm, evocative vocals over a dense sound.
BLACK FOXXES - RIVER
The Exeter three-piece throw up some emotive alt rock on this lead single from their debut EP 'Pines' out on November 24. Catch them live on October 19 at The Underground, Plymouth, followed by a London date at Dingwalls on October 21.
DIARRHEA PLANET - HEAT WAVE
Who said guitar bands were over? Nashville's heavy thumping six-piece bring it on, fuzzed out guitars on fire with the second single from their upcoming EP, 'Aliens In The Outfield', released November 18 thru Infinity Cat.
FORREST COKELY - PROBLEMS
Where had this Californian been hiding? Without doubt a real undiscovered talent - now discovered via this album 'Peaces'. See our previous Track Of The Day for more.
DREAMSHOW - 16
The project of Brooklynite Constantine V - and comprising Jahphet Landis (from TV on the Radio) on drums, Mason Orfalea (Cerebral Ballzy) on guitar and Michael Amacio, bass - this is the lead track from their debut EP 'Chasing Control' which came out last week. Hazy guitar strokes ... erm, not too unlike The Strokes, bouncy melody and Constantine fronting up nicely on vocals.
THE LUCID DREAM - UNCHAINED
Second single - released November 10 - from the Carlisle psych outfit's second album set for release next February. Lucid, dreamy, psych goodness...you got it. Catch them live at Salford's The Eagle on November 14, and supporting Clinic the following night at Hebden Bridge Trades Club.
