Track Of The Day :: Governors - Is This Love
Something quite special has been turned up by New York City duo Governors with 'Is This Love'. Not just that it marks a fairly accomplished and polished debut, but the genre-blended influences takes it a little out of what might be expected in the usual duo format.
Matt White and Madison Seely, who share dual male/female vocal duties in Governors, formed just a few months ago and began writing over the summer to produce as their first release 'Is This Love'. And it's an intriguing track; maybe not hitting you immediately, but gradually as it builds and opens out, from the piano-lef opening and Matt on vocals through to Madison's entrance and the introducing of the electronics component and a pretty effective bass.
What adds to the interest on 'Is This Love' is the not knowing where it is going to go, something fairly unusual as a song's genre is usually well-defined within the opening seconds. The song moves back and forth throughout its three-and-a-half minute duration between darker, ponderous sections to lighter interchanges that weave together into intricate patterns.
Set to make their live debut in November, and with as yet only this one track to judge them by, Governors have put in enough to warrant that they could potentially be on the road to something very big indeed.
