Introducing :: Baywaves
The Madrid-based psych outfit Baywaves produce what they term 'Hipnopop', which might well be an apt term to describe their hypnotic dreampop sound. Having now expanded from a two-piece at the time they put out initial demo tracks of the likes of the shoegaze-tinged 'To The North', to becoming a quartet, they have at the same time broadened out their range.
With a penchant for twangy, reverbed guitar-pop - listen to 'Figures' below - they have over the last eighteen months garnered praise for their mellow wafts of echo-filled pop that hit the right note on reverberant melody.
The dreamy psych of, er... 'Dreaming', was the band's debut single (with echoes of Tame Impala), for which they employed the services of Hookworms' MJ to co-produce. Intended to be part of an EP, which so far has not materialised, but the track stands up as one of their best works so far.
Latest single 'The Freak Kingdom' is a shimmery, psych-influenced track indie rock, swathed in echoey reverb. Despite yet still to put out an EP or album, Baywaves have thus far produced some highly commendable singles and hopefully during 2015 we will be seeing and hearing a lot more of them.
