Track Of The Day :: St. Tropez - I Don't Wanna Fall in Love

Not to be confused with another currently active band of the same name out of California, THIS St. Tropez are a new Amsterdam-based garage-punk outfit, and 'I Don't Wanna Fall In Love' is their debut single  - and bit of a corker it is too.

Which is just as well, since given that this four-piece are divulging absolutely zilch about themselves - they do not even have a social media presence - it is kind of breaking Little Indie's policy of not following (what we deem to be) a rather silly policy of artists choosing to remain 'incognito' and writing about them. However, as 'I Don't Wanna Fall In Love' immediately grabbed us in the first few seconds - and didn't let up for the rest of its 1.48-minute duration (in fact, we thought it so good, we immediately played it again, and quite a few more times since) - we have made a rare exception.

All the background we have is that St. Tropez wrote and recorded a batch of songs in a former gay sauna by the canals of Amsterdam. Looking for someone then to mix the results, they came across a track by Manchester band Spring King and subsequently asked their singer/producer Tarek Musa if he would preside on mixing duties. Seemingly impressed enough by what he had heard to do so, Musa was later to describe the lead cut as: "Raw, chaotic new-wave garage thing going on across the track, 70s punk meets with a bit Black Lips, Ty Segall ... catchy as hell."

Since the track's release on November 17, St. Tropez are slowly starting to attract interest from the blogosphere, which is likely to increase when they drop a second track in January (from the EP they are currently finishing). With live dates being planned for early 2015 - including a London show - they could potentially be the first big thing of the New Year.
