Track Of The Day :: White Palais - If It's The Past
Formed early last year, White Palais are a Stockholm indie pop band, now based in London, and to judge by the sound of their rather lovely debut single, have picked up a few Brit musical ideas since their relocation.
Influenced by the likes of Local Natives, Tame Impala and Arctic Monkeys, White Palais have created a sound in 'If It's The Past' that sounds a lot more British than it does Swedish. Recorded in Stockholm during the summer - mixed and produced by the band's bassist Emil Aspegren - it began as a simple mobile recording of vocalist Albert Sten singing and playing acoustic guitar, before being added to by the rest of the band - including featuring the Swedish string ensemble, Stockholm Strings - with reverbed guitars, atmospheric synths, and the honey rich dual vocals of Sten and Mahfoud.
"London is a lovely city in various ways and we enjoy being here, but if the scene in Stockholm were as alive as the one here, we would not have moved here," say the band. We can only say that Stockholm's loss is most definitely our gain.
'If It's the Past' was released digitally yesterday, and precedes an EP set for release next spring.
White Palais are: Albert Sten (vocals, guitar, piano), Elias Mahfoud (vocals, guitar, synth), Emil Aspegren (bass, samples), Axel Voss-Schrader (drums, backing vocals, samples).
