Introducing :: Ist Ist
Words: Linn Branson
Manchester-based three-piece Ist Ist are a new name in the frame, drawing on early post-punk and gothic in their sound if the first introductory demo tracks uploaded online last November are anything to go by.
Other than that the band themselves are still much in the 'mystery' bracket, with no information as yet being forthcoming, bar their self-description of being "a scowling, rapturous concoction that draws from the early, gothic post-punk sounds of Bauhaus marred against cold, stark industrial electronic slurry reminiscent of early Black Rain or Sunn O)))".
They haven't even played a live gig yet - though that at least changes tonight (January 16) when they take to the stage at Manchester's Night & Day Cafè.
The frenetic force of ‘Left For Dead’ powers on thrashing guitars and pounding drums that play as a backdrop to the somewhat detached baritone vocal. 'Pleasure', meanwhile, takes a more industrial swerve, in contrast to 'Nights Arm' which brings to mind a fleeting flash of Joy Division.
Ist Ist have announced their second live show for February 28 at Kraak Gallery, Manchester.
