Introducing :: Mike Wyatt
South-London-based Mike Wyatt has one of those voices that sounds like it has been honed over many years on a surfeit of whisky and cigarettes; given that the singer/songwriter and guitarist is still just 23 years of age, you must assume that he has been naturally blessed with that deep, raw and bluesy tone.
Recently coming to attention via BBC Introducing and Fresh On The Net, his first dalliance with recording came in 2013 with his debut EP 'Tell Me', followed last year with single track 'I'll Move On'.
Growing up in Caterham, Surrey. Mike was influenced by Blues legends like Freddie King, Buddy Guy, and The Rolling Stones, Hendrix, and Fleetwood Mac; in later years, and perhaps having even more input on his own style, there have been John Mayer, Paolo Nutini, Michael Kiwanuka, "and I'm also a bit of a sucker for Taylor Swift, but then again it seems most people are!"
After studying music at university, Mike started out as a session guitarist, playing alongside The Ting Tings and Dannii Minogue, as well as having formed his own band - Alice Avenue - before opting to go the solo route.
'Let Me Be', his latest track, was released just before Christmas. And if what you hear is enough to whet your aural tastebuds for more, Mike tells us there's another EP on the way: "I'm planning a release for later in the year, more likely towards the end of the year though. I want to take my time and do it right with the best backing and have everything in place this time. But I'm really excited to get the new songs out there. It's looking to be a good year!"
Mike has several live shows lined up for this month, with another already confirmed for March. Keep check on his Facebook for further dates to be added.
