Keep On Track :: Affairs
The Manchester-based, Hull-formed, 80s-inspired Affairs have started 2015 off on a positive note, being named as one of XFM presenter John Kennedy's 'Bands To Break' this year. And with a brand new single, 'Blood Science', set for release early next month, they look very like being a name on the lips of tastemakers over the next months.
With their fast-paced, tight sound - with some fierce guitar work and the powerful voice of frontman James Robinson - they have been picking up a word-of-mouth vibe through support slots to the likes of Alt-J, Circa Waves, The 1975 and Coasts. Check out early track 'Contact' from last year below.
Having brought out their debut EP 'Muscle' during last summer, this now appears to be non-existent online, possibly due to 'Blood Science' having already appeared on it, and in lieu of their first full-length arriving shortly since signing to Yellow Brick Records.
'Blood Science' - which was the opening track on 'Muscle' - captures a hazy, dreamy essence that balances Robinson's engaging vocal with synth lines, contrasting harmonies and catchy hooks that abound throughout. You will definitely want to hear this more than once.
Affairs play a free entry show at Night & Day Cafe, Manchester this Saturday, January 10. They then support These Ghosts at The New Adelphi Club in Hull on January 22.
'Blood Science' is out on February 8 on Yellow Brick Records.
Affairs are: James Robinson (lead vocals) Liam Grindell (guitar/vocals), Jack Richards (bass/bass synth), Dan Parker (guitar/synth), Michael Bradnam (drums).
