The Vaccines have shared news of the release of the first track, entitled 'Handsome', from their upcoming third album (more details to be announced shortly) out on March 9 digitally and as a limited edition orange vinyl 7".
The track was recorded in the winter of 2014 at Dave Fridmann’s Tarbox Road Studio in upstate New York as part of the album sessions and produced by The Vaccines, Fridmann (Flaming Lips, Tame Impala, MGMT) and Cole MGN (Ariel Pink, Beck, Nite Jewel).
It features the B-side 'Handsome Reimagined (Dave Fridmann edit)', a reinterpretation of the track by Fridmann. The track is accompanied by the riotous video below, which sees the band taking on the roles of martial art trained vigilantes. The video was directed by CANADA, an international collective of directors based in Barcelona.
“We wanted to create a video that was a sort of bubblegum ode to cinema and, in particular, Hong Kong kung fu movies,” explains the band’s Justin Young. “Music to me is entertainment, and escapism, and we wanted the video to be an extension of that. We want to create another world in which we can play aspirational and heightened versions of ourselves. We shot this through a winter’s night in a warehouse in Brooklyn, just before Christmas. No fun indeed. Gerson though, as Canada directors always seem to do, helped us escape and create exactly the world in which we wish we lived.”
The Vaccines have also announced a short UK tour in March and April playing exclusive, intimate shows, and precedes the new album and planned UK arena tour.
