Track Of The Day :: Grave Diggers Union - Clouds
Lancashire duo Grave Diggers Union - Nik Brierley, vocals/synths and Michael Whalley, drums - are a relatively new outfit - in fact, they just made their live debut in Manchester this past Saturday.
The Chorley pair - who describe their sound as "ambient doom pop" - formed almost a year ago and have spent their first months writing and recording their debut EP, 'Don't Be Fooled By The Sun' - released on the weekend (January 10) thru Brock n Broll Records.
Influenced by a mix of 80's music, from Joy Division, Echo and the Bunnymen to Depeche Mode, they also admit to being into "really heavy guitar music like Sunn 0))) and Earth. We also like synth pop bands such as Hot Chip. That's just the tip of the iceberg though to be honest," drummer Michael Whalley tells us.
There is quite possibly an inkling of the aforementioned to be heard amongst the four tracks on the EP. 'Clouds', the deep and doomish lead cut, resounds with Brierley's Ian Curtis-like vocal against Whalley's impacting drums.
