April 17 2015 - Hot Top Ten
PEYOTE - MODERN YOUTH
Originally from Bath, now London-based, the four-piece follow on from a debut album and EP with this latest track, a prelude to new material out later in year. See them on May 21 when they play The Garage, London.
THE GLASS CHILDREN - CAPTURE
Darkly sombre London electronic duo (David Fairweather, synths/vocals; Daniella Kleovoulou, vocals) who formed last summer, breeze into this spring with new track released last week that sets subtle 80s synth layers with a lush vocal.
GIANTS - SPARKS FLY
Featuring Keith Murray (We Are Scientists), in the duo's (Ben Burrows and Rich Cooper) idea of releasing a song a month with a guest vocalist for each; April being Murray's turn.
TURN TO CRIME - ACTIONS
Title track from new album 'Actions', out April 27 via frontman Derek Stanton's label Mugg & Bopp, by the Detroit outfit - which is basically a Stanton solo project with the aid of two local musicians - who made their debut last year with 'Can't Love'. Derek Stanton lays a lazy drawl over a taut guitar line and ’80s-flecked keyboards.
THE VULTURES - WEAKEST STORM
Dark, deep London sextet with follow-up single to debut album 'Three Mothers Part 1', which is a mash-up of rumbling bass, big toms and staccato strings, set to a chant-like refrain. Out May 4. Catch them at The Finsbury, London on May 2 for launch show.
SILENCES - THE SEA
Five-piece hailing from Armagh, NI where comparisons have obviously been drawn to Villagers. Catch them playing this new single - out May 4 - at The Great Escape. The follow-up to last EP 'Sister Snow', percussion, vocals, and guitar all ebb and flow in as serenely graceful a manner as its title suggests.
THE GRISWOLDS - IF YOU WANNA STAY
Lead single from Sydney foursome from the debut album 'Be Impressive', getting an official release on May 25, after last August's Bandcamp drop. Currently on tour in the US, they play various dates and festivals in UK next month, starting May 19 at The Stillery, London.
THE FLEAS - BORN TO RUN
Nothing to do with The Boss, but a new effervescent indie roots track from Reading quintet's EP ‘Telling Tales’, out digitally on April 27. Catch them for the live launch at The Finsbury, London on May 1.
THE HOLYDRUG COUPLE - BABY, I'M GOING AWAY
Chilean psych dreamers reveal another blissed-out trip - after the equally woozy 'Dreamy' - from their second album 'Moonlust', out May 12 thru Sacred Bones.
ABJECTS - GONE
Title track from the all-girl - Noemi, Yuki, Alice - garage punk three's EP out May 11 via Stolen Body Records. Sounding like a latter day Slits, they play a launch show on May 1 at New River Studios, north London.
