Debut EP Announced By Racetrack Gospel - Hear Title Track
Words: Rory Wynne
Racetrack Gospel - a quartet made up of Sam Herlihy, Martin Samuels, Max Backshell and Simon Goldring - recently announced their debut EP ‘Wiseblood’ will be released on July 20 via Youth Hymns.
Many of you may know of Sam Herlihy, once taking on the main man post in the fondly remembered indie group Hope of the States. Racetrack Gospel was born after Ken Thomas (producer of the two Hope Of The States albums,’The Lost Riots’ and ‘Left') was keen to hear new material from Herlihy; after a short telephone conversation last year, the band was born and shortly after the EP was recorded and produced by Thomas and Jolyon Vaughan Thomas (Sigur Ros, Daughter, Slaves) in Surrey.
The band's debut single (and EP title track) has just been premiered by Steve Lamacq on BBC 6 Music - not a bad platform for a debut single.
'Wiseblood' is an atmospheric mix of military drums, crescendos and heartfelt passion and the more you listen to it, the more it grows on you.
