The Mantells are a Manchester indie pop trio, made up of Tom Barrow (vocals/guitar) and brothers Dale (bass/backing vocals) and Lewis Moran (drums/backing vocals).
Released today (June 1) is their new single, 'Payday Playboys', which is available digitally and via a limited run of 100 CDs which comes with a bonus track called 'Stuck in Shudehill'.
This is the second single they have put out since forming early last year; with their debut 'Men in Suits' (which made the iTunes Alternative Chart), and EP, 'How To Say It'.
'Payday Playboys', the band tell us, was inspired by "people who act like they've got everything; perhaps in a materialistic way they do have a lot, but really when it comes to friends and family and things that actually matter, they have nothing."
The song about these "weekend millionaires" - which features some nicely worked guitar and catchy rousing chorus - works well with the video, in which we see the band playing live, intercut with actor Jeremy Mirams, who after getting a war of money from a cash machine, proceeds to spend it falling in and out of variou hostelries, becoming more and more inebriated. The film was shot on the Worsley canal in Manchester and at The Wharf and Crown & Anchor pubs in the city centre.
The Mantells play a single launch show at Night & Day Cafe, Manchester on June 6. They are also confirmed for Blackthorn Music Festival on July 26.
