On first listening to 'Sprawl', the new single from Oklahoma City quartet Tallows, it's a bit like watching a film or drama on TV: you tune in, but you're not sure if you want to stay watching or not, yet you can't yet bring yourself to hit the remote as there is something about it that keeps you glued.
Taken from their upcoming second album 'Waist Deep', out on September 8 via Walk-In Records, 'Sprawl' is a slow-burning, five-and-a-half-minuter that you will possibly either love ...or pass on. Give it time though; let its spread of minimalistic drums that steadily build on top of guitar and synths, combining in a blend of indie pop and electronica, wash over you through its rolling melody, samples and percussion, with Samantha Crain's seductive vocal giving depth and resonance.
Tallows began when friends Josh Hogsett (multi-instrumentalist /vocalist) and Richard Lindsey (guitarist/programmer) met and formed the band in Oklahoma City in 2012. With the addition of Jay Sullivan (drums) and Adam Thornbrugh (bass), the band recorded their first album 'Memory Marrow' in 2013, which was duly nominated for best indie/alt album by Independent Music Awards.
