Track Of The Day :: Vinegar - Sugar Daddy
Words: Linn Branson
Just over a year ago we featured a Welsh band by the name of Bloom as our Track Of The Day with 'Slow Evil'.
Despite the track being a hit with us - and their getting noticed by a certain weekly organ (which we naturally decline to name), Bloom sadly failed to blossom. However, not ones to wallow in sourness, not only are they back and sounding just as feisty and fuelled as before - and with the same line-up - except they're now known as Vinegar, and they have relocated from Cardiff to the rarefied environs of East London.
Spending time on the Lightship 95 studio boat moored on the Thames, the guys have been working on a raft of new material - with an EP imminent, they tell us.
After putting out the NSFW 'Fuck Yourself' as an intro to the new combo back in May, they go for a sweeter route with latest track to be unveiled, 'Sugar Daddy'.
This is a much lighter beast compared to the mesmeric darkness of 'Slow Evil', with the vocals taken higher than the aforementioned, yet still working a deep bass groove, fuzzy guitars delivering some fine old rock riffs against some frenetic heavyweight drum explosions which underpin it all perfectly. Sweet.
