Finnish Band Ceremonials Stream Two New Tracks - Listen

Words: Linn Branson

We wrote about the Finnish band Ceremonials back in March (see here) with the release of their three-track 'Arabia' EP.

Now the Helsinki post-punk/psych four-piece have two new tracks in the offing: 'Eastern Sun' and 'Sugar'. You can hear both now, streaming below, in advance of the August 17 release.

The new songs show a band that’s taken another step in its development. The three-minute 'Eastern Sun' mixes eastern flavours with elements of post-punk - that may be reminiscent of The Sound or Interpol - but still retain the Ceremonials stamp of pounding back drum rhythm and heavy bass. 'Sugar' takes on a slower tempo, focusing on that twanging guitar sound that was introduced on 'Arabia', and, of course, the undeniable Ian Curtis-like vocals that dominate of frontman and guitarist, Niklas Willstedt.

Dark, distinct - and a damn shame that this band are not better recognised. They deserve to be.
