Track Of The Day :: PWR BTTM - West Texas

Words: Linn Branson

Since we first heard upcoming album title track 'Ugly Cherries' early last month (see our report here), New York duo PWR BTTM have become a Little Indie favourite. Now, ahead of their album arriving in a few weeks, the duo have shared another another taster ripe for picking.

'West Texas' is more spread out than anything we've heard from the "queer punk" pair so far (which includes two EPs, 'Cinderella Beauty Shop' and 'Republican National Convention', a split with Jawbreaker Reunion) - perhaps an indication of the distance between NYC and the eponymous area of the title. Resounding guitars ride big over a rolling rhythm as Ben Hopkins and Liv Bruce double on vocal duties. “The stars above me are the same ones above you,” sings Bruce. “I’ve been trying to play it cool/but I still love you.”

Aww, shucks.

'Ugly Cherries' is released on September 18 via Father/Daughter Records and Miscreant Records.
