A Palette Of New Sounds #3 14/9/15
HUNCK - I'LL WAIT
London hunks HUNCK are back after last year’s ‘Something Missing’ debut EP with this new single, out on October 16. Somewhat mournful lyrics from Frederik Tyson-Brown (”Another day passes by/a day where I’d rather die/but I’ll wait/’til I know it’s time”) over psych-pop guitars. Star rating: ***/5
WILDHONEY - LAURA
The Baltimore dreamgazers follow their debut album 'Sleep Through It' with a new EP, 'Your Face Sideways', our October 16. This first track from the record delivers Lauren Shusterich’s light vocal touch over an expanse of percussion and electric guitar. Star rating: ***.5/5
SMALL BLACK - BACK AT BELLE'S
Another track from the upcoming 'Best Blues' album, out October 16 via Jagjaguwar. The Brooklyn outfit's sound carries a lush laid-back, dreampop vibe, with Josh Kolenik’s vocals hazily evocative. Star rating: ***/5
INTERTWINE - MY ONLY LIE IS SILENCE
So cold, so detached, so slow, so glacial, so...Scandinavian? You got it. From the upcoming album 'Goraikoo', out on November 6 via Brilliance Records, this lead single (out now) from the Norwegian trio is ambient to the point of being practically in the next room; at times in its four minutes you just yearn for a little uplifting amidst all the silence and icy edges of Tarjei Zakarias Ekelund's vocals that make it just too cold for comfort . Star rating: **.5/5
DEMOB HAPPY - JUNK DNA
Brighton’s Demob Happy release this as one side of their upcoming AA-side single with ‘Suffer You’. Both tracks coming from their 'Dream Soda' full-length due for release on October 2 via SO Recordings. Built around a number of tempo changes that lead into a powerfully intense grunge anthem. Star rating: ****/5
