A Palette Of New Sounds #4 20/9/15
MONO SIDEBOARDS - TIME GOES BACKWARDS FOR FRANK
The eponymous Frank here is Frank Lamb who put the Liverpudlian group of "a variety of singers, musicians, poets, artists" together, and this first single (out September 25) could well see time now moving rapidly forward for young Frank. If you like this, there's an album, 'The Pains Of Being Frank Lamb', due on October 23 thru Monkey Finger Records. Star rating: ****/5
DILLY DALLY - PURPLE RAGE
The Toronto quartet drop their debut album 'Sore' on October 9 (via Partisan Records/Buzz Records), and here's a taster of what to expect. Snarling vocals, squealing hooks and a raw intensity that sweeps you up in it. "This song is meant to be an anthem for channelling all the rage we have into something positive," says singer/guitarist Katie Monks. As John Lydon said, anger is an energy - and it's certainly packed in here in three minutes. Star rating: ****/5
BRUNELLE - CHEMISTRY
Bristolian production/DJ duo, Shane Tremlin and Thomas Foley, have worked with the likes of KStewart, Lulu James and Rebecca Clements both writing and playing live, and are credited as main writers and producers on the track 'Deep' by Jones. Now the pair are set to focus on their own material, with this first debut offering. Star rating: ***.5/5
CAMCORDER - LOW
Don't be fooled by the low-key acoustic opening to this EP track: it soon fires off into fierce grunge rock territory. Camcorder are a new three-piece from Woking, Surrey. The four-track debut EP, 'Manifest Misery' was released on September 9. Star rating: ***/5
WEDDING - RUTH
Title track from the debut EP, out via RIP Records on October 16, from Manchester-based Thomas Craig and New Yorker Zachary Taube, written and recorded during their time in Germany. ‘Ruth’ introduces the EP, carved with the delicate and sliding guitar work that graces the rest of the four-track release - which was self-produced and recorded to a tape machine. Star rating: ***/5
