Track Of The Day :: Haleiwa - Wall Of Blue Sky
Words: Linn Branson
From Swedish artist Haleiwa, a track from 'Palm Trees Of The Subarctic', the upcoming album out September 24 via This Is Forte.
The solo project of Mikko Singh (Haleiwa), an acoustic guitar equilibrist from Stockholm. And if like us you hadn't the foggiest what an 'equilibrist' is, apparently it's "a performer who is skilled at balancing in unusual positions and hazardous movements, as a tightrope walker in a circus. In this case the tightrope walker is Mikko Singh and the circus is Haleiwa." Clear? No, nor us. But suffice to say, this six-minute atmospheric cut, 'Wall Of Blue Sky', with its shoegaze-cum-dreampop sound, soothing vocals and mellow lyrics over synthesizer ambience and overdubbed acoustic guitars, slips down a treat.
Haleiwa has released three albums since 2005. After four years of silence following the tropical vibed 'Pura Vida Dude' (2010) on the Japanese label Friend Of Mine Records, Haleiwa actually put out 'Wall Of Blue Sky' last year (on Sunstone Records), and which is now set to appear on the new album.
