New Sounds #6 1/10/15
ADULT BODIES - DRONES
Spacey, atmospheric seven-minute single released on September 22 by the electronic project of Los Angeles duo Steven Wilkin and Matthew Kiernan. The first track from their upcoming EP, 'Solid Colors : Modern Lives'. Out of this world. Star rating: ****/5
MICKY BLUE - WILD THINGS
Grab yourself a stream and free download of this new track from the latest EP by 'haunted pop' songstress, Micky. The London-born, now New York-based, artist has recently lent her terrific vocals to EDM artists such as Tritonal and Baggi. The whole EP, she says, "is about my struggles, thoughts and feelings about the music industry but Wild Things focuses mainly on one's inner demons." Star rating: ***/5
BROCKLEY FOREST - RUBICON
Released last Friday (September 25), this is the lead cut from 'The Die Has Been Cast', the third EP from the Bristol rock duo (vocalist/guitarist Dec and drummer Seb), available on Deaf Endling Records. Produced by Ian Davenport (Band of Skulls, Dinosaur Pile Up), it's a heavy duty groove monster, with stomping slide guitar riffs and vocal hooks. Star rating: ***.5/5
HMGNC - MEMORIES THAT LAST A DREAM
From Bandung, Indonesia come one of the country's biggest electronic acts, Homogenic, or HMGNC. The trio (Deena Dellyana - synths/ programming), Grahadea Kusuf - synths/ programming), Amandia Syachridar - vocals) follow-up 'Today and Forever' with this, their second single. With future RnB and soul textures it easily slips down the ears and smoothes over the senses. Star rating: ****/5
GL - NUMBER ONE
Melbourne duo Ella Thompson and Graeme Pogson follow up last year's EP 'Love Hexagon' with this new synth-funk track out on October 24. Sharp, crisp production and enigmatically captivating vocals of Thompson. Star rating: ****/5
