New Sounds #9 15/10/15

THE BRITANYS - CITY BOYS
The New York City garage rock boys flex their Stooges-esque riffs once more on this latest track, preceding a more adventurous full album. Attitude and energy is where it's at. Star rating: ***/5

JONAS CARPING - THE LAST APPROVAL
Lead single from just released second album 'Cocktails & Gasoline' - recorded in a cabin in the outbacks of Sweden. "We wanted to really capture the spirit of the Swedish wastelands." Dark, deep, eloquent - think Tom Hickox - hard-driving Americana. Star rating: ***.5/5

TEAM PANDA - A COVER
Hailing from Dinbych in Denbighshire, North Wales, indie pop-rock duo Team Panda have just released this first single off their upcoming debut album. The pair - Rhys Llwyd (vocals, guitar, bass, piano, synth; Aled Owen (guitar, backing vocal) - who sing in Welsh as well as English (their Welsh track 'Tynna Fi i'r Glaw' (Draw Me To The Rain) was chosen for the final of this year's 'Song for Wales' competition), aim to release full-length 'Set Back The Years' before the end of the year. Star rating: ****.5/5

FRANCES - I CARE
Follow-up to 'Let It Out', the 22-year-old soulstress announces the release of her new collaboration with Canadian producer Pomo. 'I Care' marks the second single from her forthcoming EP, out October 16 thru Communion Records. Fragile vocals with a strong undercore, the 'Let It Out' EP highlights Frances' ability to craft effortlessly addictive pop songs. Star rating: ***/5

FOLD - A VICTIM'S MENTALITY
Out October 16, the latest track from the inventive Leeds experimental quartet prior to their self-titled debut album, out on November 3. Fold carefully weave both the natural spoken rhythms and eloquence of many voices past and present into a unique tapestry of hip hop, funk, jazz, and psychedelic rock threads. Star rating: ****/5
