October 16 2015 - Hot Top Ten
U.S. GIRLS - SORORAL FEELINGS
From Meghan Remy's new album 'Half Free' which came out last month via 4AD. Eerie, chanting echoey vocals. In Remy's words, it was "loosely based on the character Nora Bass from the Michael Ondaatje book Coming Through Slaughter. What if you found out your husband slept with all of your sisters before choosing you?"
SUN CLUB - WORM CITY
The Baltimore psych fuzz outfit blend jangly guitars, off-kilter time signatures, with sunny hooks and reverb on this track from their debut full-lengrh'The Dongo Durango', out October 30 via ATO Records.
BRITISH INDIA - THRESHOLD AMERICAN
Big riffy new track from the established Australian alt-rockers - playing New York's CMJ over this weekend - who released their fifth album earlier this year.
KING KOREA - ZOO GENERATION
Debut single from the London-based garage rock trio, out October 23. A taut, three-minute explosion of blistering guitars, fuzzed-out bass and psychotic vocals.
RATS ON RAFTS - LAST DAY ON EARTH
Six-minute monster of a track, taken from new album 'Tape Hiss', released today via Fire Records. The Rotterdam post-punks are on tour now in Europe, heading to UK in November, where they open at Brighton's Prince Albert on 1st.
LUPA J - DIRTY SKIN
New work from Sydney's Imogen Jones. As always, atmospheric, emotive and intricately crafted from the classically trained violinist, turned electronic, songstress.
DAHLIA - BREATHE
Minimalist fragrance from new south-London duo - Luke Hester, production; Lucy Hill, vocals - just uploaded online and already creating blogosphere frenzy. Evocative and intimate downtempo debut.
CHEATAHS - SU-PRA
Out via Wichita on October 30, another track from the London outfit's upcoming 'Mythologies' album. Sounding better than ever here as they seemingly move away from shoegaze into psych territory with synths, looping guitar textures, and a dissonant motorik drone beat.
GOLD CLASS - BITE DOWN
Latest taughtly delivered offering from the Melbourne post-punks. Described as "an aggressive post-punk version of The Smiths", you could easily add in a touch of Ian Curtis too on this track from upcoming album 'It's You', which sees its UK release on November 6.
LUSTS - ILLUMINATIONS
Title track - available as digital download now - from Leicester brothers Andy and James Stone's debut album, out October 23 on 1965 Records. Psych glazed woozy chorus’ and reverb-laden guitars, produced by Hookworms' MJ.
