Track Of The Day :: Never Young - New Villain
Words: Linn Branson
There is little wonder over why we love Never Young here at Little Indie. Having rated their self-titled debut EP 8.5/10 back in March, means we rate Bay Area, California noise-rockers pretty darned highly.
In September, 'Stress Hed', the first of three tracks recorded with Deafheaven producer Jack Shirley, appeared. The three - with 'New Villain' and 'Latex Heart' - collectively called 'NY Singles', formed a stand-alone release that came out last Friday (October 16) via Father/Daughter.
'New Villian' - about "feeling guilty and acknowledging a less appealing part of yourself," according to vocalist Nikolas Soelter - crashes its way through high velocity energy and reverb, as fuzzy layers of guitar wrap themselves around their punk cacophony of surprisingly melodic noise.
