November 20 2015 - Hot Top Ten
CAVALIERS - GENGHIS CAN'T
One of those tracks that when it starts off you may not be too sure about, but by midway you're kinda grooving along on its poppy vibrancy. Released as a 'two-track EP' (we'd call it more a AA side single, w/ 'Kelso Vs The Moon Landing') on November 7, by the Winchester-based five-piece.
LASTLINGS - CHILLS
The vocals here probably will give you the chills, but in a good way. Taken from the debut EP ‘Unreality’ scheduled for release early next year, new single out today (November 20) by Australia Gold Coast sibling duo Amy and Joshua Dowdle. Amy's echoing, ethereal voice takes centre stage, while swooning synths create a dreamscape of electronica.
CASTLECOMER - ESCAPISM
Vibrant guitar-led pop from the Sydney five-piece with Bede Kennedy striking out on catchy, driving vocals. Out December 19, this new track is part of a special AA-side 7" release with previously-released 'Fire Alarm'.
HAYBABY - DOORED
Brooklyn-based trio with one of the most grunge heavy on their new album 'Sleepy Kids', which was released through Tiny Engines on October 30. Leslie Hong's vocals top the raw energy of saturated bass and percussion.
MORNING SMOKE - SOFT DECAY
Produced by the ubiquitous Rory Atwell (Parma Violets, The Vaccines), the new single out December 4 via Cannibal Hymns, from the Brighton noise pop outfit. Fuzzy riffs shot through with a heavy beat and Milo McNulty's passionate howls.
THE CAIROS - LOVE DON'T FEEL RIGHT
Released November 12, the first new material since their debut album, 'Dream Of Reason' last year, following a label split and seemingly, a slight diversion in sound too. Bright, synthy pop with airy vocals.
MOTHXR - TOUCH
The Brooklyn four-piece have revealed brand new track ‘Touch’, their first since signing a deal with Kitsuné Records. The dark and brooding track contains elements of old school R&B and modern electro pop.
HELLO BULLDOG - UNDER MY SPELL
The Manchester outfit pour a dose of psych-blues into the follow-up (inspired in part by Tim Buckley's 'Song To The Siren') to ‘Makin Friends Not Millionaires’, out November 27 digitally/December 4 on limited edition cassette via Blak Hand Records.
HOUND - DRIVEWAY
Starting off in fairly standard fashion for the first 52 seconds - with a nice drum roll, though - this first single from the Brisbane garage-post-punk band's early 2016 EP really comes into its own from thereon in. An infectious banger of a track.
SPORADIC CHILDREN - RELEASE
Smooth, easy on the ear new three-and-a-half minute 'release' from the Melbourne indie psych trio, their follow-up to July's '17' single. Listen out for the nifty guitar midway.
