Bloc Party, TOY, Oscar + Others To Celebrate January Pias Nites
PIAS Nites UK, PIAS and Rockfeedback announce the second double-header of new and established artists from the PIAS family with shows at London’s Village Underground on January 25/26 2016.
The line-up includes Bloc Party, Wichita’s Oscar and Blaenavon from the Transgressive stable alongside Play It Again Sam’s newly signed FEWS. Representing Heavenly Recordings are TOY whilst recent addition to the Stolen Recordings roster, Thomas Cohen completes the line-up.
TOY
Signed amidst a wave of acclaim some five years ago, making an immediate impact with their self-titled debut and its successor Join The Dots. TOY mark an early return to the live arena in the New Year. Recently seen as part of the SexWitch collaboration with producer Dan Carey and Bat For Lashes’ Natasha Khan, the band wield an unerring cache of tracks - a testament to their irrepressible inventiveness and determination, unpredictable and sonically propulsive, TOY continue to experiment and push the boundaries that will continue with the arrival of their imminent third album, sometime in 2016
Oscar
Emerging from North West London, 24 year old Oscar Scheller came armed with a Macbook full of the tunes needed to save British pop. Consistently hailed as one of the most brilliant new songwriting talents around, and with a live show that charms all who see it, he is currently putting the finishing touches to his debut album.
Thomas Cohen
Thomas Cohen is the former frontman of S.C.U.M. Now a solo artist whose music is informed by the freer moments of Van Morrison, Todd Rundgren and Scott Walker, his debut album - recorded over a turbulent two year period - will be released via Stolen this spring. This show will mark his live debut.
Bloc Party
Following a series of sold-out US and European shows Bloc Party are gearing up for the January release of their fifth album HYMNS via Infectious Music. HYMNS is a rebirth for Bloc Party. After 16 years as a band, countless world tours and awards and four studio albums, Kele Okereke and Russell Lissack are taking it back to where it all began, putting together a sublime new album that began with the two of them sharing ideas in a studio. Bolstered by new members Louise Bartle and Justin Harris, the result is a record that sounds like a band growing and changing, pushing new sounds via new approaches, and resulting in bigger, better, stronger Bloc Party.
Blaenavon
Hailing from Hampshire, this youthful trio made their debut via Transgressive’s paradYse imprint soon followed by a string of memorable sold-out shows that rapidly marked the teenagers as ones to watch. With a raft of national radio support and recent live sorties with the likes of Foals and Oscar, 2016 is gearing up to be a pivotal twelve months.
FEWS
Newly signed to Play It Again Sam, this US /Swedish four-piece arrive on the back of a handful of UK live dates, their label debut The Zoo picking up playlist status at 6music. Currently in the studio adding the final touches to their debut album, with producer Dan Carey at the controls you can expect it to be one of the most impressive releases of 2016.
