'High Above Me' is the new single out today, December 18, from the young Australian artist Kristafor Farrenkothen, and which Little Indie is stoked to premiere here.
Recorded and produced by Michael McGlynn (Little May, L-Fresh The Lion) at Vienna People Studios in Sydney, 'High Above Me' is another in the young singer/songwriter repertoire of deceptively simple, highly engaging songs that belie his relatively tender years.
Little Indie first featured the then 19-year-old Sydney-based singer/songwriter in August 2014 in our New Sounds From Australia #4. A student at the Australian Institute of Music where he is doing a Bachelor of Music degree (majoring in Audio Engineering), music has long been a driving force since starting to learn classical piano at the age of six.
Despite describing himself on his Facebook page as "Just me and my guitar", it seems as if Kris has been working on a lot more here. Opening on just guitar and accompanied by Kris's raw and rich vocals, it gradually builds over just shy of three minutes of dreamy rich melodies and added instrumentation.
"'High Above Me' is a song about being in relationship with someone and feeling like they are always so much more than you ever expected," reveals Kris. "Never in a negative way though. They're constantly looking out for you and making you feel loved, but at the same time pushing you to be more and never letting you settle."
What's interesting about 'High Above Me' is despite being performed here by a solo artist, one could easily imagine it being covered by a boy band like One Direction (well, before they embarked on their 'hiatus' anyway) or even an indie pop outfit. Kristafor Farrenkothen could well be someone set for big things over the next years.
