One man project Murat Kılıkçıer, aka Inhoodies, may have made us grin with his name back in September when we first heard him and what became our Track Of The Day, 'My Con', but there is no denying he can turn out a tune.
The latest from the Istanbul-based artist is a delicate five-minute work 'Gospel' that opens on gently plucked acoustic guitar and Kılıkçıer's emotive vocal. As it gradually builds, bringing in keyboards, violin and cello (Tim Wills, Ian Brown's producer/ arranger, is behind the strings arrangement), drums and bass guitar courtesy of Martyn Campbell (Richard Ashcroft, The Lightning Seeds, Rain), it becomes something quite extraordinarily rich, that in parts has a slight feel of Mt. Wolf about it.
There's a debut album coming early next year. Mark it down.
