January 15 2016 - Hot Top Ten
WHISTLEJACKET - DUCK SOUP
Recorded with the ubiquitous Rory Atwell, there's plenty of fuzzy melodic rock-gaze here from the London outfit - though not a can of Heinz to be had. New EP 'What I Ate On Sunday' out on Fierce Panda on February 5.
PEANESS - I WISH I COULD BE FREE
The Chester female alt-indie-pop three-piece follow last summer's debut EP 'No Fun' with this new upbeat pop 'n' harmony track. Catch at Telfords Warehouse, Chester on January 22.
FROM APES TO ANGELS - PERFECTION
Second electronica single, edging over four-minutes-plus from London/Sheffield synth-wave duo (Millie Gaum, vocals; Andrew Brassleay, synths). Released via Bandcamp on February 8, as a forerunner to their debut EP. Sounds perfect to us.
BREEZE - LUNA LOVE ME GOOD
Our recent premiere (see here), you gotta love the Brum twang on Paul Baker's 'magic' Harry Potter character inspired new single.
MASTS - MONAGHAN
Soaring, melodic noise-punk banger from the Cardiff four-piece, coming from the debut album 'Adversaries’ out on February 19 via Jealous Lovers Club.
WINTERSLEEP - AMERIKA
From new album 'The Great Detachment', available March 4 on Dine Alone Records, marking the 15th year of the Canadian indie rock band led by Paul Murphy. Inspired by the 19th-century poet Walt Whitman, it's a slow burner of big guitars and Murphy's deep-toned vocals.
FAZERDAZE - LITTLE UNEASY
Lo-fi dreampop from Auckland, New Zealand, led by the dulcet vocals of Amelia Murray. Supported Unknown Mortal Orchestra on NZ tour last December following release of this single.
BEATY HEART - FLORA
The Peckham posse return with new single and a change of style, combining interesting beats and floating percussion. Released February 26 via Caroline International/NUA Entertainment, with their second album (produced by David Wrench - FKA Twigs, Caribou, Jungle - and Dave Eringa - Manic Street Preachers, Wilko Johnson) to follow later in year.
GHOST WAVE - BLUES SIGNAL '79
More from Auckland, this time the first single from the electronic duo's - Dr Billy & Malcolm S - second album, 'Radio Norfolk', released shortly via Flying Nun. Trippy, psych hooks with clashes of keys, organs, and percussion.
EASY KILL - SAMSON
Manchester doompop quartet follow up their first release, the 'Already Entitled' EP, with this first taste of their new material 'Sermons' released on February 26. Swoony guitars work around thundering drums, and the quite masterly and distinctive vocals of Theo Tobias.
