January 8 2016 - Hot Top Ten
ALI INGLE - HEY KID
Somewhat quirky and infectious lead cut from the Liverpudlian alt-folk/poptronica artist's new EP 'The Great Romantic Drought', released in December.
SLOW CULTURE - HOAX
Digitally released in December (iTunes/Spotify from January 15) the debut single from the Sydney four-piece who are still just a mere five months old. The 'babies' are sounding pretty good, however, with this psych-blended alt-rock track.
HER - THIS VELVET PRISON
One of those length-is-everything tracks. Seven-minute psych/synth opus, one of three new tracks the Exeter-based four-piece have aired online. Sounding impressively more-ish.
RONGORONGO - FASTER/ROTS
Lead track from the debut EP 'Automatic Hypnotist' - released last month on War Room Records - by Liverpool’s fast-rising sextet who are drawing comparisons from Nick Cave to Ian Curtis - and much interest. Will be interesting to see what they next produce.
FOND OF RUDY - ARE YOU READY?
Track from the Brighton calypso-pop four-piece's debut EP of "swaggering indie, rock and pop", titled 'One', out on January 15. Dancey, catchy beats and the little interspersed 'hey's' are cute - be ready.
STAY VOICELESS - COMFORTABLE
Enjoying support from Adam Walton at BBC Radio Wales, South Wales rockin three-piece with their slamming noisy-riffed dolloped debut single, released February 22. These could be a big one by the end of the year - if they haven't damaged their fans' hearing before then.
TRUDY - BABY I'M BLUE
Produced and mixed by Spring King's Tarek Musa, the new offering from the former Leeds, now Liverpool-based trio of decidedly differently, louche-esque vocals and guitar pop notes. Catch them live on January 12 when they play their first London show at The Old Blue Last.
TALL POPPIES - CAT GOT YOUR TONGUE?
Beaty, Sparks-like guitar pop ("inspired by a Jane Austen novel and a night out in London") by eccentric indie-pop four-piece, fronted by identical twin sisters Susan and Catherine Hay on vocals, bass and guitar. Launch at London's Servant Jazz Quarters in Dalston on January 27.
COLD FIELDS - WASTED
Produced by Gavin Monaghan and released on February 5, a return for the Birmingham outfit we first featured here three years ago. Fusing dubstep and electro in what they call 'melancholic indie', on their earlier tracks, this latest takes a pleasing move towards guitar indie; helmed by Chris Newey's distinctly Brummie vocals.
FUSS - LUNG BUTTER
More from Liverpool, this time spacey, DIY scratchy psych-shoegazers who dropped this debut at the end of 2015 along with suitably trippy visuals.
