GHOST ROBOTS - UNDER FIRE
Irish five-piece from Waterford (formerly known as We The People) released their second EP 'Sell It To Me' on January 15, with this vibrant alt-rock number - with vocalist Michael Doyle saying he's "going home" as he doesn't "feel well" - being the lead single. The band are now working on their debut album with producer Ciaran O' Shea. Star rating: ****/5
SLOOM - CHOCOLATE IN THE MIDDLE
Infectious 90s rock vibed lead track from the alt-garage/ blues Sydney quartet's 'Wasp Honey' EP, a collection of songs written and recorded in 2015, and to be released on May 1 this year. Star rating: ***/5
AUGUST WELLS - A LITTLE TOO REAL
Out January 29 on FIFA Records, the new single from Dubliner Ken Griffin, and pianist John Rauchenberger. Stirring chorus of brass, strings and shuffling guitar, along with New York-based Griffin’s baritone is a taster of their new album 'Madness Is the Mercy' due out later this Spring. On tour in Ireland and Europe in February, catch live on January 28 at Roisin Dubh, Galway. Star rating: ***.5/5
CASTLES - FORESTEERING
One to get under your skin, the 60s influenced single - released January 15 - by Welsh alt-psych rock trio (brothers Dion and Cynyr Hamer are also part of We Are Animal) and much hailed by Adam Walton on BBC Radio Wales. Taken from their debut EP ‘PartDepart’, released last October. Star rating: ****/5
ORPHAN COLOURS - WON'T LET YOU DOWN
London-based five-piece (featuring former members of Noah & The Whale, Ahab and Danny & The Champions of the World) bring some Americana-esque to this new single is from their debut 'High Hopes' EP, out February 26. Star rating: ***/5
