Listen :: Violent Soho - Viceroy
Words: Linn Branson
There are few bands - in Australia or outside of - that do better than Brisbane's Violent Soho at what they do. Proof of that comes not just by how they are currently slaying home turf crowds on their summer festival circuit such as Laneway this last weekend, but in this latest single, 'Viceroy'.
Might be just us, but there could almost be the merest smidgen of 70s Philly sound nestled in there: lyrics like "You're like a rhinestone pickup line/My drunk guitar is more fun than you'll ever be" almost smell of Springsteen. That is, before that classic Soho bassline comes in, the riffs fall out with abandonment, and Luke Boerdam’s insouciant vocal sneer shatters any prior allusions, rattles all the cages in a headbang-a-go-go.
The track is taken from the band's upcoming fourth album 'WACO' out on March 18.
