March 18 2016 - Hot Top Ten
SUNSET SONS - KNOW MY NAME
Poppy alt-rock with foot-tapping beat from the debut album 'Very Rarely Say Die', out April 1 (on French Exit via Kobalt Label Services) by the Hossegor, France-based four-piece surfers. On tour in UK, catch them on March 23 at Newcastle Uni SU.
MANOR - GRAND MAL
Melbourne-based psych-tinged duo - Caitlin Duff and Nathaniel Morse - from their self-produced debut EP 'Can You Hear Me Talking At You'.
Duff's layered vocals mingle with reverb-washed guitars and and hypnotic drums.
CROWS - UNWELCOME LIGHT
London’s exponents of gritty gothic post-punk - led by the mesmerizing presence of James Cox - share the dark, psych-vibed title track from their new EP, out on March 25 through Telharmonium Records. Catch live on March 26 at The Forum, London (supporting Wolf Alice).
LAVENDER - HONEY
Five-minute psych debut from new Salford/Manchester outfit. Grab a taste of what's to come in this sweetly fragrant first demo from the five-piece who formed last autumn.
FRONTEERS - IDOL
New psych-infused reverbed Cam Blackwood-produced single, out now from the Hull four 19-year-olds. “It’s about when you’ve been over thinking something; sending yourself mad,” says vocalist Andy Towse. “It’s that voice inside your head telling you to stop but you’re just not hearing it.”
ECHOS - TOMORROW
Released this week, the Portland (Oregon)-based production/DJ duo - Tal Richards and Lexi Norton - follow ‘Silhouettes’ with this melodically sparse, vocally hypnotic, brooding electronica single.
MASSES - GOING UNDER
Five-piece Chicago outfit who formed last year, mix samples and synthesisers in this debut single. Mike Jansen leads vocals over propulsive beats on this polished first offering.
HEATH - THE OUTLINE OF YOU
Lead single from second EP 'June' (released April 29) by the Brighton three-piece outfit - their first since 2015 debut 'Give Me Over'. 'Pained crooner Tom' (as they described to us here last year) presides over layered melodies. On UK tour throughout April.
DANTEVILLES - SEA OF CHANGE
Jangly, tropical-vibed cut from the upcoming EP out March 25 by the alt-pop Manchester-based four-piece that Little Indie introduced here last year. Catch live tomorrow (March 19) at The Good Ship in Kilburn, London.
DEAD BELLES - THIS MACHINE'S ELECTRIC
South-east London trio's debut single, a fuzzy distorted Kasabian-heavy blaster, taken from their first EP 'Black Cats and White Elephants', released on April 16 for Record Store Day. Catch live at launch show at The George Tavern in East London on April 16.
