New Sounds #46 April 17 2016
FURS - NATIVES
The London quartet offer an upbeat infectiously rhythmic slice of electro-pop filled with bouncy guitar riffs, ahead of their debut full-length via its lead single, produced by the band's Olly Betts and Liam Wade, and mixed in New York by Claudius Mittendorfer. 'Just Kids' is out May 13 via The House Band Co. Star rating: ****/5
SNAKES - YOUNG AMERICAN
Baltimore alt-country dudes offer a taste of their self-titled debut cassette and digital release album - out May 6 via Fleeting Youth Records. Taking a darkly foreboding approach to old Country-style sounds, the trio put a new and invigorating spin on the genre. Star rating: ***.5/5
LEAPLING - HEY SISTER
From the second album 'Suspended Animation' - out June 10 via Exploding In Sound Records; recorded by Titus Andronicus guitarist Adam Reich with Dan Arnes producing himself - Brooklyn's experimental power-pop trio share another single cut of grungy guitar, distorted arpeggios alongside Arnes' soft, melodic vocal. Star rating: ***/5
BEN HOBBS - COLD SWEAT
Taken from his debut EP 'Sweet Enough', out May 6, the South London producer and multi-instrumentalist reveals his moody, synth-laden new single. “I get my therapy from those who need it,” he croons over retro melodies and plush instrumentation. Star rating: ***.5/5
PITY SEX - PIN A STAR
The Ann Arbor, Michigan shoegaze outfit air a taste of their 'White Hot Moon' album - out April 29 via Run For Cover Records - with this track of warm, warped guitar distortion and driving drum rolls that work around Britty Drake’s delicate vocals. Star rating: ***/5
